History on the Runways this Fall

Ever so often trends come back. What we see on the runways today are most likely improvements of what's already been done. That's how fashion works. But how people take it to the next level is what keeps us interested. This fall, models are sporting looks from a variety of different time eras.

One thing that has been hard to miss fall are the big coats. This trend of oversized coats have appeared many times before: the 1910s, 1920s, and the 1980s. These coats either have a big boxy feel to them our very elaborate folds and colors. This style can appear very androgynous at times. Oversized coats can have things like fur, patterns, hoods, and folds to create variety and appeal. I personally love this style because it gives a sophisticated look and it steps over to the men's side of fashion without overdoing it.

Ladylike silhouettes have been making appearances the runways in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. Boudoir is making a comeback. We see it as elegant evening ware with a comfortable feel to it. Lots of spaghetti straps, silk, fur, and lace. Many shades of pinks, deep reds, and creams seen on lengthy gowns. We've seen this trend from the 20s and 40s. This time the clothing has a sort of pajama inspiration to it. In my point of view Boudoir is very classy and timeless, anyone looks good in it.

Black and white: the trend that appears most often. I don't know what it is about those two colors that everyone loves. Is it the boldness they portray? Is it the symbol of class it gives off? Is it the versatility of the colors? In my opinion that's exactly what makes black and white so abundant in the fashion world. No matter what time era, you will see black and white. It's one of those things that never goes away. This fall the black and white has taken a turn into the 90s. It's very "cutting edge".
